I might've snuck a few mildly intellectually stimulating books in, but don't tell anyone ;^D They did have some Shakespeare, but that was about it. *Shrug* I read "Othello", that was pretty good. Not a big fan of his, though.

Pounced on the Mark Twain and Heinlein :^D

Been wanting "Kahless" and "Vulcan's Forge" since they came out, but balked at paying eight bucks apiece; got them, in hardback, for fifty cents ^_^ Patience pays off, boys and girls. :^D

Same with the Buffy tape. There were a bunch more, but my budget was already strained at $2.50 for one. (There were $20 between me and mom--and she's more of a book fiend than I am. It just didn't feel right, especially after pleading for another $2.50 to snag theEarthdawn Sourcebook ^^;) All the others were a quarter each.

The She-Ra thing, that was the biggest stroke of luck EVER, those are SO out of print and hard to get! Cost me a quarter, and in its present condition it's worth about $7.50.
Not that I care; I'm keeping it. *Hugs She-Ra book* Back when "girly" was still part of "girl power". It's so pretty ^_^

What else can be said? Ian McDonald is BRILLIANT. Go get King of Morning, Queen of Day if you can. The stylistics are so unique that they take some getting used to, but once it clicks, it's unbelievably good.

Come to think of it, it's the only book that's presented me a challenge in recent years, except maybe Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but that was a school assignment, and had to be force-fed, and it was yucky IMO :^P

If you must know why the exodus to the Orlando library is such a big deal: I have to cross county lines to get there; it's like a two-hour drive (forty-five minutes' distance; the rest of the time is spent in Interstate traffic). I couldn't get a card there, even if I wanted to, because it's in Orange County, and I'm, well, not. Which means they won't let me have a card. GRRRR.

And our branch sux. Or, as I say: "It sux AND blows. At the same time." *Sigh* :^p

Fun fact: If less literature had been force-fed, I think I'd like it more. Seriously. If my English teacher hadn't expended so much energy trying to hammer in "The Classics", I'd've been much more receptive. Of course, I had a raging personality conflict with her anyway, which didn't help.

It was actually my History teacher who introduced me to Heinlein, Tolkein, Twain, Poe, and the Bronte sisters. Simply by example: he was always quoting them and whatnot, which sparked my interest (and indirectly caused me to snag Student of the Month in English.) I shudder to think what would have become of me without his guidance.

I'd probably watch a lot more television. Maybe even *SHUDDER* Gilmore Girls. And I watched before I judged, thank you. They're just--*RETCH* >_<

On to local news:

The backend of our general neighborhood, the side just off the Greenway, now has a small sinkhole by the drainage ditch. So far it's just opened up into some guy's backyard, no damage or anything as far as I know. Although they do have a crane-truck backed in there, dunno what they plan to do with it O_o

Just a bit down the street on the opposite side, some drunk idiot plowed through the brick wall dividing off the subdivision. That was about three months ago; they're finally fixing it.

Not that either of those affect me, being not-quite half a mile from my house, but still. Just felt like doing the local reporting ;^p

Other thoughts: ten songs describing or relating to oneself: (not in any order)

Relevant lyrics conveniently provided:

"Maniac" Michael Sembello

Just a still town girl on a saturday night, lookin' for the fight of her life
In the real-time world no one sees her at all, they all say she's crazy. . .
There's a cold connective heat, struggling, stretching for defeat
Never stopping with her head against the wind

She's a maniac, maniac, I sure know
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
She's a maniac, maniac, I sure know
And she's dancing like she's never danced before

"Have You Seen Me Lately?" Carly Simon

Have you seen me lately?
What was it you saw
Are you gonna catch me
With my hand in the jar, naked singing in the choir?

Don’t wake me unless you love me
It takes too long to fall back to sleep
Don’t wake me unless you’re a friend of mine
I’d rather just fall back on my dreams

"Safety Dance" Men Without Hats

I say we can dance, we can dance everything out of control
We can dance, we can dance we're doing it wall to wall
We can dance, we can dance everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance everybody takin' the chance
Safety dance

"Forgiven" Alanis Morrisette

What I learned I rejected
But I believe again
Have I suffered the consequence
Of this Inquisition
If I jump in this fountain
Will I be forgiven?

"Dreaming" Brian Transeau (BT)

We both know, the power of pain
To get back up and start it again
You hide no place for tears
Leave behind the frozen years
Catch my hand and come with me
And we'll go Dreaming

"Cosmic Castaway" Electrasy

And I want but have not
Bad dreams, lust thoughts
In here with no pain, you hurt me again
And I want but have none
I should beat the alien
But here I'm no one,
Just a Cosmic Castaway

"Over My Head" Lit

They wanna try and build me up
So they can tear me down
I wish that I could be back there
But I'm right here right now

They've taken everything that I've had to give and
They say it's over but man I'm still here livin'
I don't know what to do, I think that maybe

I'm in over my head
Stuck in the red
Somethin they said
Makes me think that maybe
I'm in over my head
Over my head

"Love Tried To Welcome Me" Madonna

These are my lips but they whisper sadness
This is my voice but its telling lies
I know how to laugh but I don't know happiness

And I must confess
Instead of spring it's always winter
And my heart
Has always been a lonely hunter

"With Arms Wide Open" Creed

Welcome to this place I'll show you everything
With arms wide open
Now everything has changed
I'll show you love
I'll show you everything
With arms wide open

"Supergirl" Krystal Harris

I'm Supergirl and I'm here to save the world
But I wanna know
Who's gonna save me?
I'm Supergirl and I'm here to save the world
But I wanna know
Why I feel so alone

Uh-huh. Reprise the theme song and roll the credits ^_-

Oh, and btw: I don't care, you have nice ankles, I will hear no arguments ;^p So there ;^p

Tyrantanic

Throwing My Weight Around

I'm power trippin' just now, don't mind me ^_^

I was there when Isildur took the ring. I was there when the strength of Men failed...A Drow's gotta do what a Drow's gotta do! ^_^

Outside that: computer glitchies making working with my current fics next to impossible, so I started drafting up ideas for the ones in Limbo. They've got conjectural titles, plots, and sequencing now.

In particular, I was surprised by a Mortal Kombat vignette that popped into my head wholesale as I was browsing some interesting reading(NOT for the chilluns ;^P)

The events of Mileena's death at Baraka's hands. I'd never actually seen them before, except insofar as she'd seen them--a confused tangle of imagery and loss.

Turns out Baraka's not the killer. Well he is, but he isn't. You'll see what I mean *evil grins*. Tentative title for this one being "Fairest of Them All". A really short, interlude-type thing with what is, for me, a surprising amount of mature content. ;^P

That ought to be done in--give me two weeks? It's really not difficult; outline is already totally established and it's a one-shot anyhow. Provided my computer doesn't have another meltdown/things at work don't get hectic all of a sudden/etc. Two weeks ought to be more than long enough.

"First, Do No Harm" ought to come next, although that could take as long as a month.

You getting sick of watching me talk to myself, or what? ;^P

Volunteer work tonite, I can probably work on all of this while I'm supposed to be doing other stuff later on ;^D

Later then. Gotta go polish my tiara ^_-

Purple is so my color. Go me. ^_^

Uh-Huh

Yeah I'm Okay Now

Hormones, that's what's wrong with me and that's about it. I'm fine. Honest. STOP looking at me like that, I'm really alright.

Got the usual monthly updates taken care of. Quotes, playlist, usual whatnot and B.S.

Found yet another swell quizlet; one that gets posted at the boards tomorrow. Too much of a good thing, and all that--don't want to seem overzealous.

Like I've ever been overzealous, right? Of course not ^_-

Working on stuff, ficwise. Know you're sick of hearing that. Well, that's what happens when one's computer falls apart and has to be put back together. And it's back together now, obviously, so uh--

Yeah. Working on emails too. You people are swell. Love all of y'all, gotta bounce. *BOUNCE* ^_^
