The Usual Gang of Idiots

Weekaday World

Listening: HIT ME! (Baby One More Time) Dweezil Zappa
Reading: Winter's Heart by Robert Jordan

Well, there goes that job.

I'm having to quit. Why, you ask?

Simple. My employer lied to me. My employer has been lying to me, from the beginning, about my hours, requirements, quotas, paperwork, and who knows what else. We don't get along, either. But that's not the point--I've worked for jerks before. I was a housekeeper/nanny for more than two years--quite lucratively, I might add--doing scut work for a harridan, without the slightest desire to quit. (My tenure ended when I moved; the job no longer paid for itself at that point.)

I can work for a jerkus. I cannot--I WILL not--work for a liar. Period.

Hence my resignation, effective about three days ago.

Oh no. It gets better.

We're about six hundred bucks in the hole because of that heater glitch from a few months back. We basically had to eat the bill, which is not our responsibility under renter's rights. But our landlady refuses to cough up the dough. So we'll be taking--shall we say, "actions."

And I'm subpeonaed for the 20th of May. At least that's some money, if I'm chosen. That may actually be nice--I was a juror for the Teen Court program in high school. (Informal defense attorney, too.) It was fun :^)

The cat is, for some reason, shredding the corner stair. I've spritzed some repellent/deodorizer type stuff over there; we'll see if it works...

I spent the day by myself. *Pleased sigh.*

I don't do much, alone. I put on BabyBird mp3s and danced around, and washed dishes and danced around, and scanned a photo for mom and danced around, and changed the mp3s and danced around.

Somewhere in all that dancing around, I cleaned the entire kitchen, minus floor, did two loads of laundry plus one dry-clean-only skirt plus one special case (motor oil *shudder*), and made dinner for the rest of the household. I've found they come home less grouchy if I ply them with dinner ;^D

And, oh yeah, did I mention the Buffy thing I wrote? And another Replacement Killers skit (the one with the toaster). It's almost as if, now that they have an outlet for their chatter, they won't shut up. About that toaster: I made it myself ^_~

Now, don't hold me to this, but basically I've been thinking that I ought to be able to do a short, like a ficlet or something, once a week. Of course, that thing up top would be this week's, then.

Next, I'm thinking Knight of Swords. Plotting that's being really swift; Baraka's not exactly "talkative" but it's mostly action-based, so it's not as if there's a lot to tell. And I fixed up the ending to be a twist on Shaken.

Long Way Down is, eh. *Makes a face at it.* The middle won't pull together. Kung Lao shouldn't be there. I'm thinking Liu should be a cold body in a bitter grave well beforehand. Which shortens the story a little, but it's a ficlet anyhow, and a songficlet at that.

Faces has been ready, but I can't go ahead with that until I go ahead with something else, since they basically fit together.

As for that, it's technically finished up, bar the cleanup and fill-out stages.

And First Man on the Sun came together. (First-person Spikeness.) Finally. I've only been with it for three months. But it finally all makes sense. It's a mere lowly ficlet, but I'm happy with it.

And I fixed up a really pretty image-edit of a Lady Godiva-esque Anthy Himemiya. It came out really well. Got to edit it just a little more. (Must...gild...the...lily!) It was just a wee bit of the complicated. See, the hair covering her chest originally belonged to another figure with an entirely different shade of hair (almost white), so there
was little hue or color to alter and work with...and I beat the crap out of her hair with the Smudge brush; that was fun. It turned all sleek, ropey and kind of twisty under the effect. It looks less like hair and more like, I dunno, a billow of silk. Purple silk. How cool is that? *^_^*

Well, not too, for those not obssessed ;^p I might just show the results, sometime later...

I'm going to go have some coffee now. Too tired yet to be entertaining.

See ya :^)
